What's changed in Rulomi
0.8.0
0.8.0 opens apps, links and settings screens, runs routines from your calendar, sends web requests, and works with Tasker and MacroDroid.
Open things
- “Open Maps”, “open https://news.example.com” or “open the Wi-Fi settings”: an app you pick, a web page, or one of eleven settings screens.
- Started from Run now, a shortcut or the tile, it opens straight away. Started by a trigger, you get a notification to tap, since Android doesn’t let apps open things on their own.
- “Turn on Wi-Fi” and the like, which Rulomi can’t switch, are answered with a routine that opens the right panel for one tap.
Your calendar
- “During meetings”, “when a meeting starts”, “when an event called ‘Gym’ starts” or “when a meeting ends”, from the calendars you tick.
- “Only if I’m not busy” or “if I’m in a meeting” checks it when the routine runs.
- “During” puts things back when the meeting ends, and back-to-back meetings count as one. A moved meeting moves the routine with it.
- Events shown as free and all-day events are left out unless you say otherwise. Events are read on your phone, and nothing about them is kept or sent.
Web requests
- “Send a request to Home Assistant”, “post ‘good morning’ to ntfy” or “call my IFTTT webhook”. You type the address on the phone, where “Send a test” tries it once.
- The address never goes to the AI planner, and a request carries only the message you wrote: nothing Rulomi reads on your phone can go out in one. https only.
Tasker and MacroDroid
- “Send the intent com.example.CAR_ON”, with optional text, for Tasker or MacroDroid to act on.
- “When another app starts it”: Tasker or MacroDroid can run that routine with its ID and a key shown on its page. Without the key nothing runs.
0.7.0
0.7.0 adds steps that act on your other routines, media keys, vibration and sounds, the battery, time and date in your words, and interval, screen and restart triggers.
Routines that act on your other routines
- A step can run, pause or enable another of your routines: “run my Driving routine”, “pause the Night routine”, “enable my Car mode routine”. You pick the routine on the review screen, and its run shows in Activity as started by the routine that ran it.
- “Pause this routine” as the last step makes a routine run once and stop.
Media, vibration and sounds
- Play, pause, skip to the next track or go back a track in whatever app is playing, as a headset button would.
- Vibrate once, for up to 10 seconds.
- Play your notification sound, or your ringtone or alarm sound for 10 seconds. The alarm sounds even on silent.
The battery, the time and the date in your words
- A notification or spoken step can say
{battery},{time}and{date}, filled in when the step runs:notify me "Battery at {battery}".
More triggers
- Every 15 minutes to every 12 hours, in a window on the days you choose: “every 2 hours between 9 am and 5 pm on weekdays” runs at 9, 11, 1, 3 and 5.
- When the screen turns on, or off.
- When the phone starts up after a restart.
0.6.0
0.6.0 lets a routine start from more than one trigger or from none, adds nine conditions and “unless”, and puts buttons on a routine's notification.
More than one trigger, or none
- A routine can start from up to four triggers joined by “or”: “when I plug in my phone or when my car connects, set media volume to 60%”. Any one of them starts it, two that happen together start one run, and Activity says which one it was.
- A routine can also have no trigger at all, and run only when you start it: from Run now, the Quick Settings tile, a home-screen shortcut, or a button on another routine's notification.
- “Put it back when it ends” with several triggers waits until none of them holds any more, so unplugging while the car is still connected keeps the change.
More conditions, and “unless”
- Nine new conditions, each with its other form: the screen on or off, the phone unlocked or locked, the ringer on normal, vibrate or silent, Do Not Disturb, battery saver, something playing, airplane mode, the screen landscape or portrait, and an app you pick being open.
- All but the last are read from Android when the routine runs and need no permission. “Only if YouTube is open” uses usage access, as the app triggers do.
- “Unless” before a condition means its other form: “unless YouTube is open”, “unless I'm charging”, “unless on weekends”.
Buttons on a routine's notification
- A notification can carry up to two buttons. One runs another routine you pick:
notify me "Low battery" with a button "Save power" that runs Low power mode. - The other cancels the rest of the run, for a routine that warns you before it acts:
notify me "Quiet hours in 5 minutes" with a cancel button, wait 5 minutes, turn on do not disturb. If the routine puts settings back, Cancel puts back what had already changed. - On a phone with a PIN, pattern or password, a button asks you to unlock first. The routine names on buttons are matched on your phone and never go to the AI planner.
Fixes
- At the largest font sizes, text no longer clips or breaks mid-word: the time on a routine card, the step numbers, a routine's title beside its switch, and the Paused filter.
0.5.0
The first version on Google Play. Because it's the first, this entry describes what the app does rather than what changed.
Building a routine
- Describe a routine in up to 2,000 characters of English, or start from one of four presets. An on-device parser reads it first and recognises a fixed set of phrases.
- The optional AI planner interprets wording the parser can't place. It asks for your consent the first time you build a routine, every installation gets five free AI plans, Rulomi Plus adds 100 more for US$4.99 once (no subscription, and they don't expire), and you can switch the planner off in Settings.
- With the planner on, you can type a change to a saved routine, such as “make it 10 pm”, and review the result before it replaces the old one. If the change can't be made, the routine stays as it was.
- Every plan is shown as
WHEN,ONLY IFand a numberedTHENlist before anything runs. You can rename it, grant the access it needs, enable it, or save it paused.
Triggers, conditions and actions
- Twenty-two triggers: a time of day, the charger connecting or disconnecting, the battery dropping below a level, Wi-Fi connecting or disconnecting, a Bluetooth device connecting or disconnecting, headphones (wired or USB-C) plugged in or out, an app posting a notification, an app opening, leaving an app, a shake, the phone face down or face up, the proximity sensor covered or uncovered, the screen turning landscape or portrait, and the room getting dark or very bright.
- Up to four conditions, all of which must hold. One group of two to four may be joined by “or”, as in “if charging or on Wi-Fi, and on weekdays”.
- Twelve actions, up to eight per routine: a notification, spoken text, volume for media, ring, notification or alarm, ringer mode, brightness, screen timeout, the flashlight, auto-rotate, Do Not Disturb on or off, a wait of up to six hours in total, and dismissing one app's notifications.
Putting settings back
- End a description with “restore everything after 2 hours” and the volumes, brightness, ringer mode, Do Not Disturb, screen timeout and auto-rotate the run changed go back to how they were when it started.
- A routine that starts when something begins can put them back when it ends instead, with “put it back when I leave” or “put it back when I unplug”.
- Pausing, editing or deleting a routine partway through a wait puts back what had already run.
Checks and troubleshooting
- Each routine shows what it leaves the phone set to.
- Before you save, Rulomi warns when two of a routine's steps set the same thing at once, or when another enabled routine leaves that setting somewhere else at the same moment. It refuses a switch turned straight back with nothing between, and two conditions that can never both be true.
- Why isn't it working? on each routine checks access, event monitoring, the next alarm, battery management and the last run, and offers the fix where there is one. It runs on the phone and sends nothing.
- Activity keeps the 100 most recent runs, including skipped, blocked and partly completed ones, with how many actions succeeded.
Running and moving routines
- A Quick Settings tile runs the routine you choose, asking you to unlock first when the phone is locked.
- Up to four routines can have a home-screen shortcut, and another app can ask for a run with the
com.rulomi.action.RUN_ROUTINEintent. Both ask you before the routine runs. - Settings → Your routines exports every routine to a file you choose and imports it again, with each routine paused until you switch it on.
Look and feel
- A dark theme, Charcoal, which you can pick in Settings or leave to follow the phone.
- An info button beside key titles and actions explains that part of the app in a few sentences.
- A short welcome on first open.
If you sideloaded an earlier version
Before Google Play, this site offered Rulomi as a download signed with a different key, so the Play version won't install over a copy from here. Export your routines in Settings → Your routines, uninstall the old app, install Rulomi from Google Play, and import the file. Run history doesn't move.
